IMAGE COURTESY OF NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SERVICE – ENJOY THOUSANDS OF IMAGES OF NORFOLK’S UNIQUE HISTORY AT www.picture.norfolk.gov.uk
All the evening events are free but need to be booked in advance and although this is a great image I’m not sure if donkey rides are available during the day. Join them on the beach on Saturday 19th May and find out what is on offer.

How did ladies manage on hot days on the beach wearing all those clothes? No wonder ladies had the vapours – I feel hot just looking at them. And it’s not just what you see but the many layers required by etiquette and I believe there is to be an opportunity to see them at a fashion show at Sheringham on Saturday 19th. You can also wear Victorian costumes at the Henry Blogg Museum in Cromer and have your very own ‘VIctorian photograph’ taken .
I don’t know whether there will be costumes at the Fishermen’s Heritage Centre, West Cliff on the Friday and Saturday evenings but you do have the chance to hear Coxswain Tom Barnes Cooper talking about the Ipsolen wreck.
It sounds like a good mix of experiences and I wish I could do it all and go to everything.
I remember donkey rides when I was a very young lad on Gorlestone beach, many years ago. I can remember the smell of the donkeys, their nosebags, stuffed with carrots, and how they needed to be dragged along to walk the whole distance. But it was great fun, and I always felt excited on being on top of a large horse-like beast – even if it was a bit lazy!
Bound to be donkeys as per last year on Cromer Beach which were very successful. There were also horse driven carriages owned by the same people.
